Description

These Air Fryer Cheesy Mashed Potato Balls are crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, made with creamy mashed potatoes and a blend of mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan cheese. Air-fried to perfection, they’re a delicious and healthier alternative to deep-fried snacks.

Ingredients

2 cups mashed potatoes (chilled and firm)

1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese

½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg, beaten

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon onion powder

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

Cooking spray or a little olive oil

Instructions

  1. If you don’t already have mashed potatoes, prepare them ahead of time and let them cool in the fridge until firm.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the chilled mashed potatoes, shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese, grated Parmesan, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Repeat until all the mixture is used.
  4. Place the breadcrumbs in a shallow dish. Roll each mashed potato ball in the breadcrumbs until fully coated.
  5. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the potato balls with cooking spray or drizzle with olive oil. Arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they’re not overcrowded. Cook for 8-10 minutes until golden and crispy.
  6. Let the potato balls cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce like ranch or marinara.

Notes

  • Herb-Infused: Add chopped fresh herbs like parsley or chives for extra flavor.
  • Different Coatings: Use crushed cornflakes or crackers for a unique texture.
  • Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the mashed potatoes for a spicy twist.
  • For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free crackers.
  • If you prefer baking, cook at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden and crispy.
