Description
These Air Fryer Cheesy Mashed Potato Balls are crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, made with creamy mashed potatoes and a blend of mozzarella, cheddar, and Parmesan cheese. Air-fried to perfection, they’re a delicious and healthier alternative to deep-fried snacks.
Ingredients
2 cups mashed potatoes (chilled and firm)
1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
1 egg, beaten
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper, to taste
1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
Cooking spray or a little olive oil
Instructions
- If you don’t already have mashed potatoes, prepare them ahead of time and let them cool in the fridge until firm.
- In a large bowl, combine the chilled mashed potatoes, shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese, grated Parmesan, beaten egg, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
- Scoop out about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a ball. Repeat until all the mixture is used.
- Place the breadcrumbs in a shallow dish. Roll each mashed potato ball in the breadcrumbs until fully coated.
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the potato balls with cooking spray or drizzle with olive oil. Arrange them in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring they’re not overcrowded. Cook for 8-10 minutes until golden and crispy.
- Let the potato balls cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with your favorite dipping sauce like ranch or marinara.
Notes
- Herb-Infused: Add chopped fresh herbs like parsley or chives for extra flavor.
- Different Coatings: Use crushed cornflakes or crackers for a unique texture.
- Spicy Kick: Add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the mashed potatoes for a spicy twist.
- For a gluten-free option, use gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed gluten-free crackers.
- If you prefer baking, cook at 400°F (200°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden and crispy.
