Perfect for busy weeknights, this stir-fry balances rich umami flavors with fresh vegetable crunch for a satisfying main course.
Ingredients
Meat
- 1 lb flank steak, thinly sliced
Vegetables
- 2 cups fresh green beans, trimmed
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
Sauces and Seasonings
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/4 cup beef broth
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Oils
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce. In a small bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and beef broth until smooth. Set this savory mixture aside.
- Heat oil and cook beef. Warm the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat. Add the thinly sliced flank steak and cook for 3 to 4 minutes until it is browned on all sides. Remove the beef from the pan and set aside to keep warm.
- Cook green beans. In the same pan, add the trimmed green beans and stir-fry for about 3 to 4 minutes until they become slightly tender but still crisp.
- Add aromatics. Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger with the green beans and cook for 30 seconds more, until fragrant and releasing their aroma.
- Combine beef and sauce. Return the cooked beef to the pan. Pour the prepared sauce over the beef and green bean mixture, stirring well to coat everything evenly.
- Thicken and finish cooking. Continue cooking for an additional 2 to 3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens and coats the ingredients beautifully.
- Serve hot. Immediately transfer the stir-fry to serving plates and enjoy while hot; it pairs wonderfully with steamed rice or noodles.
Notes
- Slice the beef thinly against the grain to ensure a tender texture.
- For a complete meal, serve with steamed rice or your favorite noodles.
