Description
A comforting and hearty country-style casserole featuring ground beef and mushrooms in a creamy sauce, topped with melted cheddar cheese and baked to perfection. Perfect for an easy weeknight meal that warms you up.
Ingredients
Meat
- 1 lb ground beef
Vegetables
- 2 cups sliced mushrooms
Liquids & Dairy
- 1 cup cream of mushroom soup
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Seasonings
- 1 tsp onion powder
- Salt & pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the casserole later.
- Brown the beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Once browned, drain off excess fat to keep the casserole from being greasy.
- Cook mushrooms: Add the sliced mushrooms to the pan and sauté until they are softened and their moisture has evaporated, enhancing their flavor.
- Prepare the creamy sauce: In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup, milk, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Stir until the mixture is smooth and well mixed.
- Combine ingredients: Add the browned beef and cooked mushrooms into the creamy sauce mixture. Stir well to ensure everything is evenly coated with the sauce.
- Assemble casserole: Transfer the beef and mushroom mixture to a baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the top.
- Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes until the casserole is heated through and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
- For a heartier meal, add cooked rice or noodles to the casserole before baking.
- Fresh herbs like thyme or parsley complement the mushrooms beautifully and can be added to the sauce for extra flavor.
