Description

Tender and flavorful oven-baked BBQ beef short ribs seasoned with a homemade dry rub and finished with a rich barbecue sauce for a melt-in-your-mouth experience.

Ingredients

Dry Rub

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar (or sugar substitute)
  • 1 tbsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder

Ribs

  • 34 lb beef short ribs
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Set your oven temperature to 300°F (150°C) to prepare for slow baking the ribs.
  2. Prepare the dry rub: In a small bowl, thoroughly mix together brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and chili powder to create a balanced seasoning blend.
  3. Apply the rub: Generously coat the beef short ribs on all sides with the dry rub, ensuring even coverage for maximum flavor.
  4. Arrange ribs on baking sheet: Place the seasoned ribs on a baking sheet and cover them tightly with aluminum foil to keep moisture locked in during baking.
  5. Bake covered: Bake the ribs in the preheated oven for 2.5 to 3 hours until they become tender and the meat is easily pierced with a fork.
  6. Apply BBQ sauce: Remove the foil carefully and brush the ribs liberally with your favorite barbecue sauce to add a sticky, savory layer.
  7. Caramelize the sauce: Return the ribs to the oven, uncovered, and bake for an additional 20 minutes to allow the sauce to caramelize and develop a delicious glaze.

Notes

  • For a spicy kick, add cayenne pepper to the dry rub mix.
  • To achieve crispier edges, broil the ribs for 2-3 minutes at the end of baking but watch closely to prevent burning.
  • Use a sugar-free BBQ sauce for a low-carb or diabetic-friendly option.
