Description
Brown sugar no yeast bread is a quick and easy homemade loaf that’s soft, lightly sweet, and perfect for when you want fresh bread without waiting for dough to rise. Made with simple pantry staples like flour, brown sugar, and baking powder, this tender bread is great for breakfast, snacks, or serving warm with butter.
Ingredients
Dry Ingredients
- 2½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup brown sugar, packed
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup milk
- ¼ cup vegetable oil or melted butter
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan to ensure the bread doesn’t stick after baking.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and brown sugar evenly to distribute the rising agent and sweetness.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk the milk, vegetable oil (or melted butter), egg, and vanilla extract (if using) until smooth and fully combined.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture and stir gently just until the batter is combined. Do not overmix to keep the bread tender.
- Pour and Spread Batter: Transfer the batter to the greased loaf pan and spread it evenly to promote uniform baking.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 55 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the loaf comes out clean, indicating the bread is fully cooked.
- Cool: Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes to set, then remove it from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing to prevent crumbling.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add ½ teaspoon cinnamon or nutmeg to the dry ingredients.
- This bread is delicious when served warm with a pat of butter or drizzled with honey.
- If the top begins to brown too quickly during baking, tent the loaf loosely with aluminum foil to prevent burning.
- Store the bread at room temperature in an airtight container for up to 3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
