Description

Cheese Danish Delight is a flaky, buttery pastry filled with a smooth, sweetened cream cheese mixture, creating the perfect combination of textures and flavors. It’s a delightful treat for any time of day.

Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

½ cup cream cheese, softened

¼ cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)

1 tablespoon milk (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, and salt. Add the cold, cubed butter and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  2. Gradually add 1/4 cup of cold water, mixing until the dough just comes together. Shape it into a disk, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  3. In a medium bowl, mix together the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Roll out the chilled dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut the dough into 4×4-inch squares.
  5. Place a tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each dough square. Fold the corners of the square toward the center to create a pocket and pinch the edges to seal.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and milk for the egg wash. Brush the egg wash over each Danish.
  7. Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown. Let the Danishes cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For a unique twist, try adding fruit preserves or fresh berries to the filling.
  • Ensure the dough is properly sealed after twisting to prevent filling leakage.
  • Freezing baked Danishes is an excellent option; just reheat in the oven for a few minutes to restore crispiness.
