Description

Cheesecake Stuffed Apples are a delicious twist on a classic dessert. Tender baked apples are filled with a creamy cheesecake mixture and topped with caramel drizzle and cinnamon, making them a comforting and indulgent treat.

Ingredients

4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

8 oz cream cheese, softened

½ cup granulated sugar

¼ cup brown sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

½ tsp ground cinnamon

¼ tsp salt

½ cup sour cream

½ cup crushed graham crackers

¼ cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans)

¼ cup caramel sauce (for drizzling)

1 tbsp lemon juice (to prevent browning of apples)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Wash and pat dry the apples. Core them, leaving the bottom intact to create a cavity. Drizzle lemon juice inside to prevent browning.
  3. In a mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese and granulated sugar until smooth. Add brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt, and mix well.
  4. Stir in the sour cream until combined, then gently fold in the crushed graham crackers and chopped nuts (if using).
  5. Stuff each apple with the cheesecake mixture and place them in a baking dish. Spoon any leftover filling around the apples. Cover with aluminum foil.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes until apples are tender but not mushy. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes to brown the tops.
  7. Allow the apples to cool for 10 minutes before serving. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with extra cinnamon. Optionally, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Notes

  • Experiment with different apple varieties depending on your preferred sweetness or tartness.
  • For a nut-free option, omit the nuts or swap them for another texture, like oats.
  • For a richer taste, drizzle chocolate sauce instead of caramel, or add honey to the cheesecake filling.
  • These apples can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving for convenience.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free graham crackers and ensure the caramel sauce is gluten-free.
