Description
Cheesecake Stuffed Apples are a delicious twist on a classic dessert. Tender baked apples are filled with a creamy cheesecake mixture and topped with caramel drizzle and cinnamon, making them a comforting and indulgent treat.
Ingredients
4 medium-sized apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
8 oz cream cheese, softened
½ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp ground cinnamon
¼ tsp salt
½ cup sour cream
½ cup crushed graham crackers
¼ cup chopped nuts (optional, walnuts or pecans)
¼ cup caramel sauce (for drizzling)
1 tbsp lemon juice (to prevent browning of apples)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Wash and pat dry the apples. Core them, leaving the bottom intact to create a cavity. Drizzle lemon juice inside to prevent browning.
- In a mixing bowl, beat together the cream cheese and granulated sugar until smooth. Add brown sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt, and mix well.
- Stir in the sour cream until combined, then gently fold in the crushed graham crackers and chopped nuts (if using).
- Stuff each apple with the cheesecake mixture and place them in a baking dish. Spoon any leftover filling around the apples. Cover with aluminum foil.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes until apples are tender but not mushy. Remove foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes to brown the tops.
- Allow the apples to cool for 10 minutes before serving. Drizzle with caramel sauce and sprinkle with extra cinnamon. Optionally, serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
Notes
- Experiment with different apple varieties depending on your preferred sweetness or tartness.
- For a nut-free option, omit the nuts or swap them for another texture, like oats.
- For a richer taste, drizzle chocolate sauce instead of caramel, or add honey to the cheesecake filling.
- These apples can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving for convenience.
- For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free graham crackers and ensure the caramel sauce is gluten-free.
