Description

Cheesesteak Stromboli is a perfect blend of two beloved comfort foods: the cheesesteak and the stromboli. This dish offers a deliciously hearty filling of beef, onions, and melty American cheese wrapped in a golden, crispy pizza dough. It’s the ideal meal for a busy weeknight or as an appetizer for your next gathering. Plus, it’s quick and easy to prepare, making it a go-to choice when you’re craving something satisfying.

Ingredients

Cooking spray

1 (21 ounce) package frozen beef sandwich steaks

1 small onion, diced

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

1 clove garlic, minced

Salt and ground black pepper to taste

1 (13.8 ounce) can refrigerated pizza dough

½ pound American cheese, thinly sliced

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Grease a skillet with cooking spray and set over medium heat. Add the frozen beef sandwich steaks and break them up by hand. Cook and stir until the beef is golden brown, about 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Stir in the diced onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, salt, and pepper. Set the beef mixture aside.
  4. Unroll the pizza dough onto a flat work surface and stretch it into a 12-inch square.
  5. Spread a thin layer of the beef mixture onto one end of the dough, leaving a 1-inch border along the sides. Tear 4 slices of American cheese in half and lay them on top of the beef mixture.
  6. Roll up the dough, pinching the sides together to seal. Repeat the layering and rolling process with the remaining beef mixture and cheese.
  7. Seal the top of the roll and transfer it to an ungreased baking sheet.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  9. Let the stromboli stand for 5 minutes before cutting it into 1-inch slices. Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes

  • For extra flavor and nutrition, you can add sautéed mushrooms or diced green bell peppers to the beef mixture.
  • Swap out American cheese for provolone or mozzarella for a different take on this classic recipe.
  • Add a few dashes of hot sauce or sliced jalapeños to give the stromboli a spicy kick.
  • For a crispy crust, brush the outside of the dough with a bit of olive oil or melted butter before baking.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled to serve more people, making it great for parties and gatherings.
  • Store leftover cheesesteak stromboli in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days, or freeze unbaked for up to 3 months.
