This Cheesy Potato and Ground Beef Bake is a comforting casserole layered with tender potatoes, seasoned beef, and melty cheese—perfect for hearty family dinners.
Ingredients
1 lb ground beef
4 cups potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
1 small onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1 cup milk
2 Tbsp all-purpose flour
2 Tbsp butter
Salt and pepper, to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13″ baking dish.
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef and drain excess fat.
- In the same skillet, melt butter and sauté onion and garlic until softened.
- Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in milk and cook until thickened and bubbly.
- Remove from heat, stir in cheddar cheese until smooth, and season with salt and pepper.
- Layer half the sliced potatoes in the prepared dish, followed by half the beef and half the cheese sauce.
- Repeat the layers with the remaining ingredients.
- Top with shredded mozzarella, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes.
- Uncover and bake for an additional 15–20 minutes until the cheese is golden and bubbly.
- Let rest for a few minutes before serving.
