Description

Chocolate ganache is a luscious and velvety mixture of chocolate and cream that can be used in many ways, from frosting and glazing cakes to making truffles. Its smooth texture and rich flavor make it a perfect addition to almost any dessert. Whether you’re an experienced baker or just getting started, this chocolate ganache recipe is easy to make and will elevate your sweet treats to a whole new level.

Ingredients

9 ounces semisweet chocolate, roughly chopped

1 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoon dark rum (optional)

Instructions

  1. Place the chopped chocolate in a medium mixing bowl.
  2. Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat. Bring it to a boil, being careful not to let it boil over.
  3. Once the cream has come to a boil, pour it over the chopped chocolate. Stir until the chocolate has fully melted and the mixture is smooth and glossy.
  4. If using, stir in the dark rum for an added flavor depth.
  5. To use as a glaze, let the ganache cool for about 5 to 10 minutes, then pour it over your cake, starting from the center and working outward.
  6. For a fluffy frosting or chocolate filling, let the ganache cool in the refrigerator until it thickens (about 1 hour). Then, whip it until light and fluffy and use as desired.

Notes

  • For a sweeter flavor, use milk chocolate instead of semisweet chocolate.
  • To make it vegan, swap the heavy cream for coconut cream or a non-dairy alternative.
  • Store leftover ganache in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
  • To reheat, bring the ganache to room temperature or gently reheat it in the microwave or in a bowl of warm water.
