Description
Classic strawberry shortcakes are a simple and delicious dessert made with Bisquick shortcakes, sweetened strawberries, and freshly whipped cream, perfect for summer occasions.
Ingredients
1 quart fresh strawberries, sliced
¼ cup sugar
2 ⅓ cups Original Bisquick mix
½ cup milk
3 tablespoons sugar
3 tablespoons butter, melted
½ cup whipping cream
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix the sliced strawberries with ¼ cup sugar and set aside to allow the berries to macerate and release their juices.
- In a medium bowl, stir together Bisquick mix, milk, 3 tablespoons sugar, and melted butter until a soft dough forms.
- Drop the dough by spoonfuls onto an ungreased cookie sheet, making about 6 shortcakes.
- Bake the shortcakes in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until they are golden brown.
- While the shortcakes are baking, beat the whipping cream in a medium bowl with an electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form.
- Once the shortcakes are done, split them open while still warm and fill with the sweetened strawberries. Top with a generous dollop of whipped cream.
- Serve and enjoy!
Notes
- Add lemon zest to the strawberry mixture for a refreshing citrus note.
- For a fun twist, try using raspberries or blueberries instead of strawberries.
- If you prefer a dairy-free version, use dairy-free margarine and whipping cream alternatives.
- A drizzle of melted chocolate over the whipped cream adds a decadent touch.
