Ingredients
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
3 cups granulated sugar
5 large eggs
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup whole milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon lemon extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease and flour a 10-inch Bundt pan thoroughly.
- Cream Butter, Shortening, and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter and shortening together until creamy. Gradually add sugar and continue to beat until light and fluffy, about 4–5 minutes.
- Add Eggs: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Alternately add the flour mixture and milk to the creamed mixture, beginning and ending with the flour. Mix just until incorporated.
- Add Flavorings: Stir in the vanilla extract, lemon extract, and almond extract until evenly distributed.
- Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared Bundt pan and smooth the top. Bake for 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Serve: Let the cake cool in the pan for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve plain or with a dusting of powdered sugar.
Notes
- If you use salted butter, reduce the amount of salt in the recipe to adjust for the salt in the butter.
- Feel free to experiment with different extracts such as orange, coconut, or hazelnut.
- If using a different pan size, adjust the baking time accordingly. Smaller pans may bake faster, while larger pans may require more time.
- If desired, substitute vegetable shortening with more butter for a denser texture.
- Serve with whipped cream, fresh fruit, or a drizzle of chocolate or caramel sauce for added flavor.
