Description
A quick and easy one-pan recipe that brings together the classic flavors of a cheeseburger with hearty pasta, perfect for a family-friendly weeknight meal.
Ingredients
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Pasta and Liquids
- 2 cups uncooked pasta (elbow, shells, or rotini)
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 can diced tomatoes (optional)
Flavorings and Cheese
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp mustard
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp pepper
Instructions
- Brown the Beef and Onion: In a large skillet or pan over medium heat, cook the ground beef with diced onion until the beef is browned and the onion is softened. Drain any excess fat to keep the dish from being greasy.
- Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for about 1 minute until fragrant, taking care not to burn it.
- Combine Pasta and Liquids: Add the uncooked pasta to the pan along with the beef broth, ketchup, mustard, diced tomatoes if using, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir everything together to combine evenly.
- Simmer: Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low. Cover the pan and cook for 10–12 minutes, or until the pasta is tender and has absorbed much of the liquid. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Cheese Finish: Remove the pan from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and creamy, creating a rich and flavorful sauce that coats the pasta and beef.
Notes
- Add pickles or pickle relish to mimic classic cheeseburger toppings for extra flavor.
- For a baked-style finish, top with extra cheese and briefly broil or bake until bubbly and golden.
