Ingredients
Beef and Seasoning
- 1 1/2 pounds flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Sauce
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1/2 cup soy sauce (or gluten-free soy sauce)
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced (or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger)
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
Vegetables and Thickener
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
Instructions
- Prepare the Instant Pot: Set the Instant Pot to the Sauté function and add the olive oil, heating it up for browning the beef.
- Brown the beef: Season the sliced flank steak or sirloin with salt and black pepper, then add the beef to the pot. Brown it lightly on all sides to develop flavor.
- Add sauce ingredients: Pour in the beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, minced garlic, ginger, and drizzle sesame oil. Stir well to combine all the flavors.
- Pressure cook: Secure the Instant Pot lid and set the valve to Sealing. Cook on High Pressure for 10 minutes to tenderize the beef and infuse the sauce.
- Release pressure: Carefully perform a quick pressure release to safely open the pot.
- Add broccoli: Add the broccoli florets to the pot with the cooked beef and sauce.
- Sauté broccoli: Set the Instant Pot back to Sauté mode and cook the mixture for 3 to 5 minutes until the broccoli is tender-crisp.
- Thicken sauce: Mix cornstarch and cold water to create a slurry. Stir this into the pot and simmer for 1 to 2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Serve: Once thickened, serve the beef and broccoli hot over rice or noodles.
Notes
- Slice beef thinly against the grain for maximum tenderness.
- For an extra kick, add red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- Note that the sauce will thicken more as it cools, so serve immediately for best texture.
