Description

Famous Crab Bombs are crispy, golden seafood appetizers filled with juicy jumbo lump crab meat, a blend of seasonings, and a light breadcrumb coating, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

450 g (1 lb) jumbo lump crab meat (fresh, picked over for shells)

1 egg, lightly beaten

60 g (1/4 cup) mayonnaise

1 tbsp Dijon mustard

1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

1 tsp Old Bay seasoning

1 tbsp fresh parsley, finely chopped (optional)

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)

1 tbsp lemon juice

Salt and pepper to taste

Butter or oil spray (for baking or air frying)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine crab meat, egg, mayonnaise, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, Old Bay seasoning, lemon juice, parsley, and salt and pepper. Be gentle to keep the lumps of crab intact.
  2. Gradually add breadcrumbs to the mixture until it holds together but isn’t too dry. Be careful not to overmix.
  3. Form the crab mixture into round balls (about the size of a golf ball), yielding around 8–10 crab bombs.
  4. Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F) for baking or air fryer to 190°C (375°F).
  5. If baking, arrange the crab bombs on a parchment-lined baking tray. If using the air fryer, place them in the air fryer basket. Lightly spray or brush with butter or oil.
  6. Bake for 15-18 minutes (oven) or air fry for 10-12 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve hot with lemon wedges, tartar sauce, or spicy mayo for dipping.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper, hot sauce, or finely chopped jalapeños to the mixture.
  • For a cheesy variation, mix in some shredded cheese like mozzarella or cheddar into the crab mixture.
  • Use panko breadcrumbs for a lighter, crispier texture or substitute with regular breadcrumbs.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days, or freeze uncooked crab bombs for later use.
