Description

Elevate your dining experience with this French Onion Butter Rice recipe. Rich, buttery rice infused with the savory flavor of caramelized onions, perfect for any meal!

Ingredients

1 cup long-grain white rice

  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 cups beef broth (or chicken broth)
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Caramelize the Onions: In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook until golden brown and caramelized, about 15 minutes.
  2. Toast the Rice: Add the rice to the saucepan with the onions and stir to coat in butter. Cook for 2-3 minutes until slightly toasted.
  3. Simmer: Pour in the broth, garlic powder, and thyme. Bring to a boil, then simmer covered for 18-20 minutes until rice is tender and liquid is absorbed.
  4. Finish & Serve: Remove from heat, fluff rice with a fork. Stir in Parmesan cheese if desired. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with parsley and serve warm.

Notes

  • Creamier Texture: Add 2 tbsp of heavy cream for a richer consistency.
  • Vegetable Broth: Swap for vegetarian version.
  • Herb Variations: Try rosemary or sage for a unique taste.
