Description
Easy and healthier homemade bagels using Greek yogurt and self-rising flour, shaped and baked to golden perfection without the need for boiling. A quick and simple recipe perfect for breakfast or a snack, offering a soft interior with a slightly crisp crust.
Ingredients
Dough Ingredients
- 1 cup Greek yogurt
- 1.5 cups self-rising flour
Topping
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- Everything seasoning or sesame seeds, as desired
Instructions
- Mix the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine 1 cup of Greek yogurt with 1.5 cups of self-rising flour. Stir until a soft dough forms.
- Divide and Shape: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Divide it into 4 equal portions. Roll each portion into a ball, then gently flatten and poke a hole through the center with your finger to form the classic bagel shape.
- Prepare Egg Wash and Season: Beat the egg in a small bowl. Brush the surface of each shaped bagel with the egg wash to promote browning and help toppings stick. Sprinkle everything seasoning or sesame seeds evenly over the bagels.
- Bake the Bagels: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Place the prepared bagels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
Notes
- For a gluten-free version, substitute regular self-rising flour with gluten-free self-rising flour.
- You can air fry the bagels instead of baking for a crispier texture, adjusting cooking time as needed.
- Ensure the dough isn’t too sticky; if needed, add a little more flour while mixing and shaping.
- Let the bagels cool slightly before slicing to maintain texture.
