Ingredients
180 g butter, softened
40 g corn starch
90 g powdered sugar
1 egg
A pinch of salt
1 tsp vanilla sugar (or 1 tsp vanilla extract)
~250 g flour
1 tsp baking powder
Instructions
- Soften the butter at room temperature until creamy.
- Whisk butter and powdered sugar together until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the egg, salt, and vanilla sugar (or extract) until smooth.
- Sift flour, corn starch, and baking powder together, then gradually fold into the wet mixture to form a soft dough.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Shape dough into small rounds or use a cookie press, placing them 2 cm apart on the sheet.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes until edges just start turning golden.
- Cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Add 1 tsp lemon or orange zest for a citrus twist.
- Dip cooled cookies in melted chocolate for a decadent finish.
- Roll dough balls in chopped nuts before baking for extra texture.
- Add ¼ tsp cinnamon or cardamom for a warm spice note.
- If the dough is too crumbly, add milk 1 tsp at a time.
