Description

Soft and flavorful herb breadsticks baked to golden perfection, ideal for dipping in marinara sauce, soup, or any of your favorite sauces. These breadsticks make a perfect appetizer or a delicious side dish with an Italian-inspired twist.

Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet active dry yeast (about 2 1/4 tsp)
  • 3/4 cup warm water (around 110°F / 43°C)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs (such as basil, oregano, thyme)
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Activate the Yeast. In a medium-sized bowl, combine the yeast, warm water, and olive oil. Stir gently and let sit for about 5 minutes until the mixture becomes frothy, indicating that the yeast is active.
  2. Prepare the Dough. Add the flour, garlic powder, dried Italian herbs, and salt to the yeast mixture. Stir with a spoon until the dough begins to come together, then transfer to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  3. Let Dough Rise. Form the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel or plastic wrap and let it rise in a warm, draft-free spot for about 1 hour, or until the dough has doubled in size.
  4. Shape Breadsticks. After the dough has risen, punch it down to release air. Divide the dough into 12 equal portions and roll each into elongated breadstick shapes. Place the shaped breadsticks on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spaced slightly apart.
  5. Bake the Breadsticks. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Optionally, brush the breadsticks lightly with melted butter mixed with garlic for extra flavor. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the breadsticks are golden brown on top and cooked through.
  6. Cool and Serve. Remove the breadsticks from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving warm with marinara sauce, soups, or your preferred dips.

Notes

  • Brush the breadsticks with melted butter mixed with garlic before baking for extra flavor and a golden crust.
  • The baked breadsticks can be frozen. Cool completely, then place in an airtight container or freezer bag and freeze for up to 2 months. Reheat in the oven before serving.
