Description
Instant Pot Beef Tips and Gravy is a rich and comforting American classic made with tender beef chunks simmered in a savory homemade gravy. This recipe delivers the deep flavors and tender texture of slow-cooked beef in a fraction of the time using an Instant Pot. Perfectly served over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles, it’s an easy one-pot meal ideal for a satisfying dinner.
Ingredients
Beef Mixture
- 2 pounds beef stew meat or sirloin tips
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 packet onion soup mix
Gravy Thickener
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons cold water
Instructions
- Prepare Instant Pot: Set the Instant Pot to the Sauté function and add the olive oil to the pot to heat.
- Season Beef: In a bowl, season the beef stew meat with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder ensuring the pieces are evenly coated for robust flavor.
- Brown Beef: Add the seasoned beef to the hot Instant Pot in batches if necessary. Brown the meat on all sides to develop a rich, caramelized crust, which enhances the gravy’s depth.
- Add Liquids and Seasoning: Pour in the Worcestershire sauce and beef broth into the pot, scraping the bottom gently to release any browned bits stuck to the surface for added flavor. Stir in the onion soup mix completely.
- Pressure Cook: Secure the lid on the Instant Pot and set the valve to sealing. Select High Pressure and cook for 35 minutes to tenderize the beef thoroughly.
- Release Pressure: Allow a natural pressure release for 10 minutes to let the cooking finish gently, then carefully use quick release to vent any remaining steam before opening the lid.
- Make Gravy: In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch and cold water to form a smooth slurry. Set the Instant Pot back to Sauté and stir the slurry into the beef and liquid. Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes until the gravy thickens beautifully.
- Serve: Spoon the beef tips and luscious gravy over your choice of mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles while hot for a classic hearty meal.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add sliced mushrooms or onions to the pot before pressure cooking for an aromatic boost.
- If the gravy becomes too thick, thin it out with additional beef broth to reach desired consistency.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheated gently.
