These Maple Cinnamon Apple Chips are a naturally sweet, lightly spiced, and perfectly crisp snack. Made from thinly sliced apples coated with pure maple syrup, warm cinnamon, and a hint of nutmeg, they offer a healthy and delicious baked treat that captures the essence of fall in every bite.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 3–4 apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala work best)
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 225°F (110°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper to prepare for baking the apple slices.
- Slice Apples: Using a mandoline or a sharp knife, slice the apples very thinly, about ⅛ inch thick, to ensure even baking and crispiness.
- Toss with Seasonings: In a large bowl, gently toss the apple slices with pure maple syrup, ground cinnamon, nutmeg (if using), and a pinch of salt until evenly coated.
- Arrange on Baking Sheets: Lay the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets, making sure they do not overlap for even cooking.
- Bake Apples: Bake in the preheated oven for 1½ to 2 hours, flipping the slices halfway through to promote even drying and crisping.
- Check for Crispness: Remove the chips when they are dry and lightly crisp; they will continue to crisp up as they cool.
- Cool Completely: Let the apple chips cool completely on the baking sheets before transferring or storing them.
Notes
- Slice apples evenly for consistent crisping and baking.
- For extra crunch, extend baking time slightly at low heat, watching carefully to avoid burning.
- These chips can also be made in an air fryer at 300°F for 12–15 minutes as a quicker alternative.
- Store the cooled apple chips in an airtight container for up to 5 days to maintain freshness.
