Ooey Gooey Bars are a decadent dessert combining a cake-like base with a smooth, cream cheese topping. Sweet, creamy, and slightly gooey in the center, these bars are easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
1 box yellow cake mix
½ cup butter, melted
4 large eggs, divided
2 tsp vanilla extract
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
4 cups powdered sugar
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Prepare the cake base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cake mix, melted butter, 2 eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.
- Press the batter into the bottom of a greased 9×13-inch baking pan.
- Prepare the cream cheese topping: In a separate bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, remaining 2 eggs, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. Gradually add powdered sugar and mix until smooth.
- Assemble the bars: Pour the cream cheese mixture over the cake layer, spreading evenly.
- Bake: Place in the preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes, until the edges are golden and the center is set but slightly gooey.
- Cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.
Notes
- For variations, try different cake mix flavors like chocolate, strawberry, or lemon.
- For a lighter version, use margarine or vegetable oil instead of butter.
- Add a teaspoon of lemon zest or a pinch of cinnamon to the cream cheese layer for a unique flavor twist.
