Instructions
- Rinse Barley: Rinse the pearl barley thoroughly under cold running water to remove any impurities and excess starch.
- Boil Barley: In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed barley with 3 cups of water or milk. Bring the mixture to a vigorous boil over high heat.
- Simmer: Once boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the barley simmer gently for 35 to 40 minutes, or until the grains are tender and have absorbed most of the liquid.
- Add Flavorings: Stir in 1 tablespoon of honey and half a teaspoon of cinnamon into the cooked barley, mixing well to incorporate the sweet and warm flavors.
- Serve: Spoon the porridge into serving bowls. Top each bowl with fresh mixed berries and, if desired, sprinkle 2 tablespoons of chopped nuts over the top for added crunch and nutrition. Drizzle with additional honey if preferred.
