Description

A savory, aromatic Chinese stir-fry featuring tender slices of beef and crisp vegetables, enhanced by the distinctive umami-rich flavor of sha cha (shacha) sauce. This quick and easy recipe brings authentic Chinese flavors to your table in under 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Beef Marinade

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp sha cha sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar

Stir-Fry

  • 1 tbsp oil (vegetable or peanut oil preferred)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup broccoli florets
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
  • Optional garnishes: green onion or sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced flank steak or sirloin with sha cha sauce, soy sauce (or tamari), and rice vinegar. Mix well and let it marinate for 15 minutes to infuse the flavors and tenderize the beef.
  2. Cook the Beef: Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a wok or large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and stir-fry until it is browned and just cooked through, about 3–4 minutes. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.
  3. Stir-Fry Vegetables: In the same wok, add the sliced bell pepper and broccoli florets. Stir-fry until the vegetables are crisp-tender, about 3–4 minutes. This preserves their crunch and vibrant color.
  4. Add Garlic: Add the minced garlic to the vegetables and stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  5. Combine Beef and Sauce: Return the cooked beef to the wok with the vegetables. If using, add the oyster sauce now. Toss everything together over the heat so that the sauce coats the beef and vegetables evenly and everything is heated through, about 1–2 minutes.
  6. Serve: Transfer the sha cha beef stir-fry to a serving dish. Garnish with sliced green onions or sesame seeds if desired. Serve hot with steamed rice or cauliflower rice for a low-carb option.

Notes

  • Slice beef thinly and against the grain to ensure it stays tender and easy to chew.
  • For a spicy version, add chili paste or fresh sliced chilies along with the garlic.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with steamed jasmine rice, fried rice, or cauliflower rice for a lighter alternative.
  • You can substitute broccoli with other favorite stir-fry vegetables like snap peas or carrots based on preference.
