Description
Yogurt Toast is a viral breakfast trend that’s creamy, lightly sweet, and incredibly easy to make. Thick slices of bread are topped with a custard-like yogurt mixture and baked until golden—creating a perfect meal for breakfast, brunch, or a high-protein snack.
Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 4 slices thick bread (brioche, sourdough, or Texas toast)
- 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup or honey
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Optional Toppings
- Fresh berries
- Banana slices
- Chocolate chips
- Peanut butter
- Cinnamon sugar
Instructions
- Preheat Oven. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
- Prepare Bread. Using the back of a spoon, press a shallow well into the center of each thick slice of bread to hold the yogurt custard mixture.
- Mix Yogurt Custard. In a bowl, whisk together the plain Greek yogurt, large egg, maple syrup or honey, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt until the mixture is completely smooth and well combined.
- Assemble Toast. Spoon the yogurt mixture evenly into the wells of each bread slice, filling the indentations fully but without spilling over the edges.
- Add Toppings. Add any desired toppings such as fresh berries, banana slices, chocolate chips, peanut butter, or a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar for extra flavor and texture.
- Bake. Place the prepared bread on the lined baking sheet and bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until the toast is golden and the yogurt custard filling has set firmly.
- Serve. Remove from the oven and serve the yogurt toast warm, enjoying immediately for the best texture and flavor.
Notes
- Greek yogurt provides the best custard-like texture due to its thickness and creaminess.
- You can use flavored yogurt as an alternative; if doing so, reduce or omit the added sweetener to balance sweetness.
- This recipe can also be made in an air fryer at 350°F for 6 to 8 minutes for a quicker alternative.
- Yogurt toast is great for meal prep and reheats well in a toaster oven without losing texture.
