Description

Light, fluffy donuts made in the air fryer—crispy on the outside and soft inside, with less oil than traditional fried donuts. This recipe offers a healthier alternative to classic fried donuts without sacrificing flavor or texture.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional Topping

  • 1/2 cup sugar + 1 tsp cinnamon (for cinnamon sugar coating)
  • Glaze (powdered sugar mixed with milk to desired consistency)

Instructions

  1. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt, stirring them together evenly to create the base of your dough.
  2. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until fully blended and smooth.
  3. Form Dough: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined to form a soft dough; avoid overmixing to keep the donuts tender.
  4. Roll and Cut Dough: Lightly flour your work surface, roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thickness, then use a donut cutter or two round cutters to cut out donut shapes.
  5. Preheat Air Fryer: Set the air fryer temperature to 180°C (350°F) and allow it to preheat for a few minutes to ensure even cooking.
  6. Air Fry Donuts: Place the donuts in the air fryer basket making sure not to overcrowd them, then cook for 6 to 8 minutes until they turn golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Add Toppings: Immediately after cooking, toss the donuts in cinnamon sugar mixture or dip in glaze while still warm to ensure the topping adheres well.

Notes

  • Lightly spray the donuts with oil before air frying for an even better golden brown crust.
  • Donuts are best eaten fresh for optimal texture and flavor.
  • Use a donut cutter or improvising with two round cutters of different sizes works well to get the classic donut shape.
  • Adjust cooking time slightly based on your air fryer model as some may cook faster or slower.
