Ingredients
Protein
- 1 lb ground beef
Vegetables
- 1 red bell pepper, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
Rice
- 3 cups cooked rice
Sauces & Seasonings
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp oyster sauce
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 2 tbsp olive oil
Garnish
- Green onions, chopped
- Sesame seeds
Instructions
- Brown the beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until fully browned and no longer pink. Drain excess fat if necessary to keep the dish from becoming greasy.
- Sauté vegetables: Add the sliced onion, minced garlic, red and green bell peppers to the skillet with the beef. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables have softened but still retain some bite, about 5-7 minutes.
- Add sauces and sugar: Pour in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, and sprinkle the brown sugar over the mixture. Stir well to evenly coat the beef and vegetables in the savory, slightly sweet sauce. Allow this to cook for an additional 2 minutes so the flavors meld together.
- Toss with rice: Add the cooked rice into the skillet and gently toss everything together, heating the rice through and ensuring it is fully combined with the beef and pepper mixture.
- Garnish and serve: Transfer the rice bowl to serving dishes. Sprinkle chopped green onions and sesame seeds on top for a fresh, nutty finish. Serve immediately while warm.
Notes
- Use day-old rice for best texture as it holds up better in stir-fry dishes.
- Adjust soy sauce quantity for preferred saltiness.
- For a spicier kick, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or a dash of hot sauce.
- Substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner protein option.
- Make it gluten-free by using tamari or gluten-free soy sauce.
