Description

Golden, crispy fried mushrooms paired with a creamy, tangy cool ranch dip make a perfect appetizer or snack that’s easy to prepare and delightful to share.

Ingredients

For the Mushrooms

  • 1 lb button mushrooms, cleaned
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

For the Cool Ranch Dip

  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ¼ cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp fresh chives, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp dried dill
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Flour Coating: In a medium bowl, place the all-purpose flour to be used as the first coating layer for the mushrooms.
  2. Beat Eggs: In a separate bowl, beat the two large eggs thoroughly to serve as the second coating layer, helping the breadcrumbs adhere.
  3. Mix Breadcrumb Seasoning: In a third bowl, combine the breadcrumbs with garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper to create a flavorful crust for the mushrooms.
  4. Coat Mushrooms: Dip each cleaned button mushroom first into the flour, shaking off any excess, then into the beaten eggs, and finally into the seasoned breadcrumb mixture, ensuring an even coating on all sides.
  5. Heat Oil: Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan to 350°F (175°C), ensuring there is enough oil for deep frying but not so much that the mushrooms will be submerged completely.
  6. Fry Mushrooms: In batches to avoid overcrowding, fry the coated mushrooms for 2 to 3 minutes each until they become golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  7. Drain Mushrooms: Transfer the fried mushrooms to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil and keep them crispy.
  8. Prepare Ranch Dip: In a bowl, whisk together sour cream, mayonnaise, finely chopped chives, dried dill, garlic powder, lemon juice, salt, and pepper until smooth and well mixed.
  9. Serve: Serve the warm, crispy fried mushrooms alongside the cool, flavorful ranch dip for dipping and enjoying.

Notes

  • Using panko breadcrumbs instead of regular breadcrumbs will give you an even crispier texture.
  • Avoid overcrowding the frying pan to ensure mushrooms fry evenly and stay crispy.
  • The ranch dip can be prepared several hours in advance and refrigerated to allow flavors to meld.
