Ingredients
Rice and Liquid
- 1½ cups jasmine rice
- 1 cup canned coconut milk (full-fat recommended)
- 1 cup water
Seasonings and Garnish
- 1 tablespoon butter or coconut oil
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar (optional)
- Fresh cilantro or toasted coconut, for garnish
Instructions
- Rinse Rice: Rinse the jasmine rice under cold running water until the water runs clear to remove excess starch and prevent clumping during cooking.
- Combine Liquids and Seasonings: In a medium saucepan, combine the canned coconut milk, water, butter or coconut oil, salt, and sugar if using. Stir gently to mix.
- Bring to Boil: Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
- Add Rice and Simmer: Stir in the rinsed jasmine rice. Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, and simmer for 15 minutes until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender.
- Rest the Rice: Remove the pan from heat but keep it covered. Let the rice sit and steam for an additional 10 minutes to finish cooking and become fluffy.
- Fluff and Garnish: Use a fork to fluff the rice gently. Garnish with fresh cilantro or toasted coconut before serving.
Notes
- Use full-fat coconut milk for the creamiest and richest texture in the rice.
