Description

This easy bow tie Caprese pasta salad features tender farfalle pasta combined with juicy cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella pearls, and fragrant basil, all tossed in a vibrant Italian dressing. Perfect as a refreshing and colorful side dish for picnics, barbecues, potlucks, and light summer meals.

Ingredients

Salad Ingredients

  • 12 oz bow tie (farfalle) pasta
  • 2 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 8 oz fresh mozzarella pearls
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1/3 cup red onion, thinly sliced

Dressing & Seasoning

  • 1/2 cup Italian dressing
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Cook the Pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the bow tie pasta and cook according to the package directions until al dente.
  2. Drain and Cool: Drain the cooked pasta and rinse briefly under cold water to stop the cooking process and cool the pasta. Drain well again to remove excess water.
  3. Combine Salad Ingredients: Transfer the cooled pasta to a large mixing bowl. Add the halved cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella pearls, chopped basil, and thinly sliced red onion.
  4. Toss with Dressing: Pour the Italian dressing over the salad ingredients. Gently toss everything together until the pasta and veggies are evenly coated with the dressing.
  5. Season and Garnish: Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese, salt, and black pepper over the salad. Mix lightly to incorporate the seasonings.
  6. Chill to Marinate: Refrigerate the salad for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to blend and develop fully.
  7. Final Toss and Serve: Before serving, toss the salad once more. Add a little extra dressing if desired to enhance flavor and moisture.

Notes

  • Use fresh mozzarella pearls and ripe cherry tomatoes for the best flavor and texture.
  • For added protein, grilled chicken can be mixed in to turn this into a main dish.
  • Drizzle balsamic glaze over the salad before serving for an extra burst of sweet acidity.
  • Store any leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days to maintain freshness.
