Description
Smooth, rich apple butter slow-cooked to perfection with warm spices—perfect for spreading on toast or adding to desserts.
Ingredients
Apples
- 2 kg apples (peeled, cored, chopped)
Sweeteners
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
Spices & Flavorings
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp cloves
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Add Ingredients: Place the peeled, cored, and chopped apples along with all the sugars, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and salt into a large pot or slow cooker, leaving out the vanilla extract for now.
- Slow Cook: Cook the mixture on low heat for 6 to 8 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking, until the apples are very soft and breaking down.
- Blend: Use an immersion blender or transfer the soft apple mixture to a blender and puree until completely smooth to create a creamy apple butter consistency.
- Thicken: Continue cooking the blended apple butter uncovered on low heat to evaporate excess moisture and thicken the spread to your desired consistency, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
- Add Vanilla: Stir in the vanilla extract for a warm, aromatic finish to the apple butter flavor.
- Cool and Store: Allow the apple butter to cool completely, then transfer it to sterilized jars. Store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or freeze for longer storage.
Notes

- Keep refrigerated for up to 2 weeks or freeze to extend shelf life.
