Description

Grilled Filet Mignon is an elegant steakhouse-quality meal featuring tender, juicy beef with a perfectly seasoned crust and a buttery finish. This simple recipe highlights the rich flavor of the filet, making it perfect for special occasions or an impressive backyard dinner.

Ingredients

Steaks

  • 4 filet mignon steaks (6–8 ounces each, about 1½ inches thick)

Seasonings and Finishing

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon fresh rosemary, chopped (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Bring steaks to room temperature: Remove the steaks from the refrigerator 30 minutes before grilling to ensure even cooking.
  2. Preheat the grill: Heat the grill to high heat, approximately 450–500°F (230–260°C), for a perfect sear.
  3. Prepare the steaks: Pat the steaks dry with paper towels and brush them evenly with olive oil to prevent sticking and enhance browning.
  4. Season the steaks: Sprinkle both sides of each steak with kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, garlic powder, and chopped rosemary if desired, ensuring even coverage for maximum flavor.
  5. Grill the steaks: Place the steaks on the preheated grill and cook for 4–5 minutes per side for medium-rare doneness, or cook longer according to preference.
  6. Add butter: During the last minute of grilling, top each steak with a small piece of unsalted butter to add richness and moisture.
  7. Rest the steaks: Remove the steaks from the grill and let them rest on a cutting board or plate for 5–10 minutes to allow juices to redistribute and enhance tenderness.
  8. Garnish and serve: Sprinkle fresh chopped parsley over the steaks before serving to add brightness and color.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer for best results: 130–135°F (54–57°C) for medium-rare, 140–145°F (60–63°C) for medium.
  • Avoid pressing down on the steaks while grilling to keep them juicy.
  • Letting the steaks rest helps retain their juices and tenderness.
  • Excellent side dishes include grilled asparagus, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables.
