Description
This Grilled Tilapia recipe features light, flaky fish infused with fresh lemon-garlic flavor. Quickly cooked on a hot grill, the tilapia develops a deliciously smoky exterior while remaining tender and juicy inside—perfect for a healthy and satisfying main course.
Ingredients
Fish
- 4 tilapia fillets, about 6 oz (170 g) each
Marinade
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Garnish
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
- Lemon wedges, for serving
Instructions
- Prepare the fish: Pat the tilapia fillets dry thoroughly with paper towels to ensure the marinade adheres well and to prevent sticking on the grill.
- Make the marinade: In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, fresh lemon juice, minced garlic, paprika, dried oregano, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Marinate the fish: Brush both sides of each tilapia fillet generously with the marinade. Allow the fish to rest for 10 to 15 minutes so the flavors can penetrate.
- Preheat the grill: Heat the grill to medium-high. Make sure to clean the grates well and lightly oil them to prevent the fish from sticking.
- Grill the fish: Place the tilapia fillets on the prepared grill. Cook for about 3 to 4 minutes per side depending on thickness. Use a wide spatula to carefully flip the fish only once to keep the fillets intact.
- Check for doneness: Cook the fish until it’s opaque and flakes easily with a fork. The internal temperature should reach 145°F (63°C) as measured by a food thermometer for safe consumption.
- Serve: Remove the fish from the grill and garnish with freshly chopped parsley. Serve alongside lemon wedges for an extra burst of citrus flavor.
Notes
- For delicate fillets, use a fish basket or grill pan to prevent breaking or sticking.
- Avoid flipping the fish repeatedly to preserve the fillets’ shape and texture.
- This dish pairs well with grilled vegetables, rice, potatoes, or a crisp fresh salad.
- You can substitute tilapia with other firm white fish such as cod or snapper if preferred.
