Ingredients
Main Ingredients
- 2 medium russet potatoes, peeled and grated
- 1 small onion, grated (optional)
- 1 egg white
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Olive oil cooking spray
Instructions
- Prepare Potatoes: Grate the potatoes and soak them in cold water for 10 minutes to remove excess starch.
- Drain and Squeeze: Drain the potatoes and squeeze out as much moisture as possible using a clean kitchen towel to ensure crispiness.
- Mix Ingredients: In a bowl, combine the grated potatoes, grated onion (if using), egg white, cornstarch, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to form a cohesive mixture.
- Heat Skillet: Heat a nonstick skillet over medium heat and lightly coat it with olive oil cooking spray to prevent sticking.
- Form Patties: Scoop portions of the potato mixture into the skillet and flatten them into patties about ½-inch thick.
- Cook Hash Browns: Cook the patties for 4–5 minutes on each side until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.
- Serve: Remove from skillet and serve immediately alongside your favorite breakfast dishes.
Notes
- For extra crispiness, you can bake the hash browns at 425°F (220°C) for 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through.
- Sweet potatoes can be used as a substitute for russet potatoes for a different flavor profile.
- Hash browns are best enjoyed fresh to maintain their crisp texture.
