Description
A classic Korean dish featuring thinly sliced beef marinated in a sweet and savory sauce, then quickly cooked to tender, flavorful perfection. Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a delicious BBQ option that pairs wonderfully with rice and lettuce wraps.
Ingredients
Beef and Marinade
- 500 g thinly sliced beef (ribeye or sirloin)
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 onion, thinly sliced
- 1/2 pear or apple, grated
- 1 tsp grated ginger
Cooking and Garnish
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 green onions, sliced
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- Prepare the Marinade: In a bowl, combine soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated pear (or apple), and grated ginger to create a flavorful marinade.
- Marinate the Beef: Add the thinly sliced beef and sliced onion to the marinade, mixing thoroughly to ensure all the beef is coated evenly. Allow to marinate for at least 30 minutes to absorb the flavors.
- Heat the Oil: Warm 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large pan or skillet over high heat to prepare for stir-frying.
- Cook the Beef: Cook the marinated beef in batches in the hot pan, stirring frequently, until the beef is browned and cooked through, usually about 2-3 minutes per batch to avoid overcrowding and ensure even cooking.
- Garnish and Serve: Once cooked, garnish the bulgogi beef with sliced green onions and sprinkle sesame seeds on top. Serve hot with steamed rice and lettuce wraps for an authentic Korean meal.
Notes
- Marinate the beef longer (up to 4 hours) for a deeper, richer flavor.
- Serve with steamed white rice and fresh lettuce leaves for wrapping to enjoy traditional Korean bulgogi.
- Choose sirloin or ribeye for tender, flavorful results.
- You can add mushrooms or carrots for extra texture and nutrition.
