Ingredients
Baguette and Toppings
- 1 French baguette, sliced into ½-inch rounds
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 8 oz Brie cheese, sliced
Mushrooms
- 8 oz cremini mushrooms, sliced
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
Garnish
- 1 tbsp chopped parsley
- Honey or balsamic glaze for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for toasting the baguette slices and melting the Brie.
- Toast the Baguette Slices: Brush each baguette slice with olive oil evenly. Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and bake them for 8 to 10 minutes until they turn lightly golden and crispy.
- Cook the Mushrooms: While the bread is toasting, melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced cremini mushrooms and cook them for 6 to 8 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms are browned and tender.
- Add Garlic and Seasonings: Stir in the minced garlic, fresh thyme leaves, salt, and black pepper. Cook the mixture for an additional minute to release the garlic’s aroma and blend the flavors well.
- Top Baguette with Brie: Remove the toasted baguette from the oven and place a slice of Brie cheese on each piece.
- Melt the Brie: Return the baking sheet with the Brie-topped crostini to the oven for 2 to 3 minutes, just until the Brie softens and starts to melt slightly.
- Add Mushroom Mixture: Spoon a generous amount of the cooked mushroom mixture over each Brie-topped crostini.
- Garnish and Serve: Sprinkle chopped parsley on top for freshness. If desired, drizzle honey or balsamic glaze over the crostini for a touch of sweetness and acidity. Serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use wild mushrooms like chanterelles or shiitake for an extra depth of flavor and more complex taste.
- Assemble the crostini just before serving to keep the bread crisp and prevent sogginess.
- Pair these crostini with a crisp white wine or sparkling cider for an elevated appetizer experience.
