Description
A flavorful baked ham coated in a tangy mustard and herb glaze, creating a perfect balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors. Ideal for holidays or special dinners.
Ingredients
Ham
- 1 fully cooked ham (about 2–3 kg)
Glaze
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for baking the ham evenly.
- Prepare the Ham: Place your fully cooked ham in a roasting pan, making sure it’s positioned securely for even cooking.
- Make the Glaze: In a mixing bowl, combine Dijon mustard, whole grain mustard, honey, olive oil, dried thyme, dried rosemary, and black pepper. Stir together until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
- Apply the Glaze: Brush the mustard and herb glaze evenly over the entire surface of the ham to ensure every bite is flavorful.
- Bake Covered: Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil to prevent it from drying out, then bake for 1 to 1.5 hours. During this time, baste the ham occasionally with the pan juices or extra glaze to keep it moist.
- Caramelize the Glaze: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 to 20 minutes. This step helps caramelize the glaze, giving the ham a beautiful golden crust and enhanced taste.
- Rest and Serve: Let the ham rest for several minutes after baking to allow juices to redistribute. Then slice and serve warm for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- Use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham is heated through properly; it should register at least 60°C (140°F) for fully cooked ham.
- For added flavor, insert whole cloves into the ham before glazing.
- Allow the ham to rest before slicing to retain its juices and keep it tender.
