Description

A flavorful baked ham coated in a tangy mustard and herb glaze, creating a perfect balance of savory and slightly sweet flavors. Ideal for holidays or special dinners.

Ingredients

Ham

  • 1 fully cooked ham (about 23 kg)

Glaze

  • 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for baking the ham evenly.
  2. Prepare the Ham: Place your fully cooked ham in a roasting pan, making sure it’s positioned securely for even cooking.
  3. Make the Glaze: In a mixing bowl, combine Dijon mustard, whole grain mustard, honey, olive oil, dried thyme, dried rosemary, and black pepper. Stir together until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  4. Apply the Glaze: Brush the mustard and herb glaze evenly over the entire surface of the ham to ensure every bite is flavorful.
  5. Bake Covered: Cover the ham loosely with aluminum foil to prevent it from drying out, then bake for 1 to 1.5 hours. During this time, baste the ham occasionally with the pan juices or extra glaze to keep it moist.
  6. Caramelize the Glaze: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 to 20 minutes. This step helps caramelize the glaze, giving the ham a beautiful golden crust and enhanced taste.
  7. Rest and Serve: Let the ham rest for several minutes after baking to allow juices to redistribute. Then slice and serve warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham is heated through properly; it should register at least 60°C (140°F) for fully cooked ham.
  • For added flavor, insert whole cloves into the ham before glazing.
  • Allow the ham to rest before slicing to retain its juices and keep it tender.
