This hearty dish combines smoky flavors with Italian-American comfort food, perfect for a satisfying main course.
Ingredients
Meat
- 2 cups smoked brisket, shredded
Pasta
- 9 lasagna noodles
Sauces & Cheese
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Other Ingredients
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to ensure it reaches the right temperature for baking the lasagna evenly.
- Cook Noodles: Boil the lasagna noodles according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside to cool slightly to prevent sticking.
- Prepare Ricotta Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, egg, and Italian seasoning. Mix well to create a smooth, seasoned cheese filling.
- Layer Sauce: Spread a thin layer of marinara sauce on the bottom of a baking dish to prevent sticking and add flavor to the base layer.
- Assemble Layers: Add a layer of cooked lasagna noodles over the sauce. Then spread some of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by shredded smoked brisket, a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese, and additional marinara sauce. Repeat these layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of noodles topped with remaining sauce.
- Add Cheese Topping: Generously sprinkle the top layer with shredded mozzarella cheese and grated Parmesan cheese to create a golden, bubbly crust once baked.
- Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish with foil to keep moisture in and bake the lasagna for 25 minutes, allowing the ingredients to meld and heat through.
- Uncover and Finish Baking: Remove the foil carefully and continue baking for another 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese on top is bubbly and golden brown.
- Rest Before Serving: Let the lasagna rest for 10 minutes after removing it from the oven. This helps the layers set for easier slicing and improves flavor melding before serving.
Notes
- Leftover smoked brisket works perfectly for this recipe, adding robust smoky flavor and tender texture.
- You can substitute fresh homemade marinara sauce for a more personalized flavor.
- Allow the lasagna to cool slightly after baking for better slicing and presentation.
- Ricotta mixture can be seasoned with extra herbs like basil or parsley if desired.
