Description

A hearty and comforting American main course featuring tender steak, savory mushrooms, and seasoned rice baked together for a rich and satisfying meal, perfect for a protein-packed dinner.

Ingredients

Rice and Broth

  • 1 cup uncooked rice (preferably jasmine or basmati)
  • 2 cups beef broth

Meat and Vegetables

  • 200 g steak, cut into small pieces
  • 1 cup mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings and Oil

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 190°C (375°F) to prepare for baking the rice dish.
  2. Cook the steak: Heat olive oil in a pan over medium-high heat, then add the steak pieces. Cook until browned on all sides, then remove the steak from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sauté vegetables: In the same pan, add chopped onion, minced garlic, and sliced mushrooms. Sauté until the onion is translucent and the mushrooms are soft and fragrant.
  4. Add rice: Stir the uncooked rice into the sautéed vegetables, cooking for 1–2 minutes to lightly toast the rice and coat it with the flavors.
  5. Combine ingredients in baking dish: Transfer the rice and vegetable mixture into a baking dish. Add the cooked steak pieces on top.
  6. Add broth and season: Pour in the beef broth evenly over the contents in the dish. Sprinkle paprika, salt, and black pepper evenly for seasoning.
  7. Bake the dish: Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the rice is tender and has absorbed the liquid.
  8. Rest before serving: Remove the dish from the oven and let it rest covered for 5 minutes to allow the rice to absorb any remaining liquid and for flavors to meld.

Notes

  • Use jasmine or basmati rice for a lighter, fragrant texture and best results.
  • For added richness, sprinkle cheese on top of the rice mixture before baking.
  • Resting the dish after baking helps the rice fully absorb the liquid and improves the overall flavor.
