Description

A versatile base recipe featuring sausage cooked to perfection, suitable for baking, grilling, or skillet cooking. Customize with your favorite vegetables or sides for a hearty and satisfying meal any time.

Ingredients

Base Ingredients

  • 1 lb sausage (Italian, smoked, or breakfast)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or butter

Optional Add-ins

  • 1 small onion, sliced or diced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 cup diced potatoes
  • 1 cup cooked pasta

Instructions

  1. Preheat Cooking Surface: Heat your skillet over medium-high heat or preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) if baking.
  2. Cook Sausage: Add olive oil or butter to the skillet, then add the sausage. Cook thoroughly until browned on all sides and the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C), about 15–20 minutes, turning occasionally for even cooking.
  3. Add Vegetables or Sides: If using, add chopped onions, peppers, or potatoes to the skillet after the sausage has browned, sautéing until tender. Alternatively, bake with the sausage or add pre-cooked pasta just before serving.
  4. Serve: Transfer the sausage and accompanying ingredients to plates while hot. Serve with your choice of marinara sauce, mustard, or gravy to complement the flavors.

Notes
